Rezidence "Artist in need" vznikla v rámci platformy Akademie výtvarných umění pro Ukrajinu ve spolupráci s Institutem umění - Divadelním ústavem, Artivist Labem a MeetFactory.

Naší společnou snahou bylo pomoci profesionálním umělcům a umělkyním, kteří ze své rodné země utekli před válkou. Poskytli jsme jim od 20.04 do 30.07. 20222, tedy po dobu tří měsíců, pracovní místo, ateliér a ubytování a zajistili jim tak minimální životní jistotu.

Výběr umělců nebyl snadný, rozhodli jsme se, že jednoho umělce, Antika Danova přivezeme z okupovaného Krymu s pomocí organizace Artist at Risk.

Umělkyni Svitlanu Reinish jsme vybírali a podpořili jako jednu z množství umělců, kterým se podařilo vlastními silami uprchnout na začátku války do Prahy. Katerynu Mamchur a Yulyu Kisil jsme vybírali pomocí nově vzniklých seznamů umělců – žadatelů o podporu a rezidenci, ty nám zpřístupnila INI galerie a mezinárodní organizace Artist at Risk, kterou Artivist Lab reprezentuje v rámci České Republiky.

Kateryna Mamchur a Yulya Kisil rozhodně řešili sociální a společenská témata v jejich tvorbě i před válkou, avšak Mamchur reprezentuje na výstavě HEROIAM SLAVA! / Sláva hrdinům! dílo ve kterém poprvé využívá jazyk uměleckého aktivismu. Její performance názvaná „Pro ruské manželky / Денацифікація“, se uskutečnila 10.07. 2022 před Ruskou ambasádou v Praze. Performance poukazuje na fakt, že znásilňování je masovou zbraní ruských vojáků.

Na video-záznamu z performance vidíme ženy v bílých šatech, které si svlékají své spodní kalhotky naproti ruské ambasádě, vzápětí je zavěšují na plot ambasády spolu s prstenem a dopisem. Performerky své osobní předměty zanechávají jako dobrovolné dary pro ruské manželky. Během stále přetrvávající války ruští vojáci nosí svým manželkám jako trofeje osobní předměty od žen, které znásilnili či zabili na Ukrajině. Silná výpověď umělkyně Kate Mamchur je výkřikem: „Už neznásilňujte naše ženy, my vám dobrovolně předáme naše kalhotky a prsteny!“

Mamchur prezentuje na výstavě zároveň i tiskoviny a fotografie s názvem Banning / Zákaz, které tematicky přímo navazují na její performance, reflektující masové znásilňování, ale zároveň otevírá otázku etiky zákazu zveřejňování drastických válečných fotografií na Facebooku či Instagramu, jelikož v online prostoru tyto materiály jsou pro každého snadno nahratelné na sítě, či dostupné.

Yulya Kisil ve video instalaci nazvané Triptych, (název odkazuje na ikonografii a na oltářní obrazy) propojila tři videosekvence, střední, liturgicky nejdůležitější zobrazuje ukrajinskou nahou ženu v postoji ukřižovaného Ježíše, v obou rukou držící chytrý telefon. Pravá a levá část triptychu nám odhalují, že ukřižovaná žena drží v rukou záznamy z války, zničené budovy, města, zabité, poraněné či osamělé děti. Tyto video záznamy nám připomínají fakt, že pomocí technologie prožíváme válku v přímém přenosu, ale naše bezmocnost zastavit válku se nezměnila od vzniku lidstva. Druhé video „Siréna / Siren“ od Yulye Kisil, je krátkou rekonstrukcí traumatu způsobeného zážitkem z bombardování. V Čechách máme každou první středu v měsíci zkoušku sirén, pořád jsem si říkala, co se stane, když začne opravdu reálná válka? Všichni jsme zvyklí na sirény, nám tento zvuk neevokuje žádné reálné ohrožení. Začátkem vpádu Ruského vojska na Ukrajinu sirény v Čechách přestaly, jejich nepřítomnost ve mně naopak vzbuzovala pocit ohrožení. Začali k nám do Čech přijíždět tisíce Ukrajinských uprchlíků traumatizovaných z reálné války, v mezičase jsme sirénu zase obnovili... Tato krátká rekonstrukce popisuje, jak první sirénu v Čechách prožívali ti, kteří se před bombami opravdu museli skrývat v úkrytech.

Svitlana Reinish prezentuje v rámci vernisáže videomapping na budovu B na dvoře Kampusu Hybernská, s názvem „Hate/Love“. Dílo je její osobní výpovědí, vyrovnává se v něm s pocitem nenávisti. Ve svém videu mapuje tento extrémní pocit. Nenávist ale nemůže existovat bez lásky, tyto dvě emoce duálně stojí vedle sebe.

Performerka Kateryna Mamchur a multimediální umělkyně Yulya Kisil se zabývaly v jejich předválečné tvorbě tématy, jakými jsou feminismus, městský prostor či společenským a sociálním tematům. Svitlana Reinish v její předválečné práci propojovala klasické umění pomocí programování a videomappingu, její dosavadní tvorba se dá nazvat apolitickou. Antik Danov je streetartový umělec, který poukazuje na urbanistické či městské nedostatky. Jeho zásahy ve městě vzbudily mnohokrát společenský diskurs, a několikrát vedly k přímým změnám. Antik Danov se jako jediný z umělců a umělkyň zabýval uměleckým aktivismem i před začátkem války. Paradoxně oproti svým ženským kolegyním jeho práce zůstává neměnná či nepostižená aktuální situací. V jeho práci „Zdání bezpečnosti a ochrany“ komentuje stabilitu bezpečnosti pomocí architektury a jejích, takzvaných bezpečnostních oprav pouze na oko. Danov je původem z Krymu a v březnu 2022 vstoupí ukrajinský poloostrov Krym již do devátého roku anexe Ruskom po nezákonném, nelegitimním referendu. Jeho práce zůstala nezměněna možná právě proto, že pochází z Krymu. Oproti Antiku Danovovi, díla jeho tří kolegyň z rezidence jsou osobní reflexí války. Každodenní strach o své blízké, nebo smutek kvůli těm, které ztratili, nebo ztratit ještě mohou, je nepopsatelný a obávám se že i přes umělecká díla nepřenosný.

▶︎ Antik Danov ◀︎

Narodil se v roce 1992 na Ukrajině. Vzdělání získal v oboru Design a architektura. V rámci vlastní umělecké praxe se zaměřuje především na motivy a procesy modernity, je streetartový umělec, který poukazuje na urbanistické či městské nedostatky. Jeho zásahy ve městě vzbudily mnohokrát společenský diskurs, a několikrát vedly k přímým změnám. V letech 2014 až 2019 působil pod pseudonymem tet9l (teta). Od té doby vystupuje pod jménem Antik Danov.

▶︎ Kateryna Mamchur ◀︎

Kateryna Mamchur se narodila v roce 1990 v ukrajinském městě Melitopol. Vysokoškolský titul obdržela na Fakultě ukrajinské a cizí filologie, výtvarných umění a designu Dniperské národní univerzity Olese Hončara. Jistou dobu také studovala obor Ilustrace na Uměleckoprůmyslové škole Projector v Kyjevě. Momentálně se zaměřuje na performance a ilustraci. Performativní umění studuje od roku 2017.

V rámci vlastní tvorby experimentuje s transparencí a neviditelností. Využívá materiály, jako je voda a polyetylen, zabývá se soužitím v městském prostoru a zkoumá dopady měst nebo míst obecně na performativní činnost. Věnuje se konceptu těla jako materiálu v umění, feminismu, umění chůze, městského plánování a souvisejícím tématům. K účasti na skupinových performance zve i další performery.

Studovala na Škole současného umění v Kyjevě na Ukrajině. Yulya Kisil je multimediální umělkyně, která se zabývá sociálními tématy, ve svých dílech poukazuje na ty, na které společnost už dávno zapomněla. V projektu „Duch bez domova“ z roku 2018 povýšila do hodnosti božstva nejzranitelnější lidi s nedostatkem osudu, jako jsou sirotci, lidé s postižením, alkoholici, narkomani atd...

Svitlana Reinish je absolventkou Kyjevské umělecké akademie, (2009) je digitální umělkyně, která se zaměřuje na vztah mezi technologií a estetikou ve výtvarném umění. Akademie jí poskytla základy klasického umění, které uplatňuje ve své práci pomocí programování a videomappingu. Reinish se účastní světelných a hudebních festivalů po celém světě a spolupracuje s divadly velkého formátu.

The residency "Artist in need" was created within the platform of the Academy of Fine Arts for Ukraine in cooperation with the Institute of Arts - Theater Institute, Artivist Lab and MeetFactory.

Our joint effort was to help professional artists who fled their native country because of the war. We provided them from 20.04 to 30.07. 2022, i.e. for a period of three months, a workplace, a studio and accommodation and thus ensured them a minimum life security.

The selection of artists was not easy, we decided to bring one artist, Antik Danov, from the occupied Crimea with the help of the Artist at Risk organization. We selected and supported the artist Svitlana Reinish as one of the many artists who managed to escape to Prague on their own at the beginning of the war. We selected Kateryna Mamchur and Yulya Kisil using the newly created lists of artists - applicants for support and residency, which were made available to us by the INI gallery and the international organization Artist at Risk, which Artivist Lab represents in the Czech Republic.

Kateryna Mamchur and Yulya Kisil definitely dealt with social and societal themes in their work even before the war, but Mamchur represents a work of art at the HEROIAM SLAVA! / Glory to the heroes! Exhibition in which she uses the language of artistic activism for the first time. Her performance called "For Russian Wives / Denazification", took place on 10.07. 2022 in front of the Russian Embassy in Prague. The performance points to the fact that rape is a mass weapon of Russian soldiers.

In the video footage from the performance, we see women in white dresses taking off their panties in front of the Russian embassy, then hanging them on the embassy fence along with a ring and a letter. Female performers leave their personal items as voluntary gifts for Russian wives. During the ongoing war, Russian soldiers bring their wives personal items from women they raped or killed in Ukraine as trophies. Artist Kate Mamchur's powerful statement is a cry: "Stop raping our women, we will willingly give you our panties and rings!"

At the exhibition, Mamchur also presents prints and photographs entitled Banning, which thematically directly follow on from her performance, reflecting mass rape, but at the same time opens the question of the ethics of banning the publication of drastic war photos on Facebook or Instagram, since in the online space these materials are easily uploaded to networks or available.

In a video installation called Triptych (the title refers to iconography and altarpieces), Yulya Kisil connected three video sequences, the middle one, the liturgically most important, shows a naked Ukrainian woman in the posture of a crucified Jesus, holding a smartphone in both hands. The right and left parts of the triptych reveal to us that the crucified woman is holding in her hands records from the war, destroyed buildings, cities, killed, wounded or lonely children. These videos remind us of the fact that with the help of technology we are experiencing war live, but our powerlessness to stop war has not changed since the dawn of humanity. The second video "Siréna / Siren" by Yulya Kisil, is a short reconstruction of the trauma caused by the bombing experience. In the Czech Republic we have a siren test every first Wednesday of the month, I kept thinking, what will happen when a real war starts? We are all used to sirens, this sound does not evoke any real danger. At the beginning of the invasion of the Russian army into Ukraine, the sirens in the Czech Republic stopped, their absence, on the contrary, made me feel threatened. Thousands of Ukrainian refugees traumatized by the real war started coming to us in the Czech Republic, in the meantime we restored the siren again... This short reconstruction describes how the first siren in the Czech Republic was experienced by those who really had to hide in shelters from the bombs.

As part of the opening, Svitlana Reinish presents a video mapping of building B in the courtyard of Campus Hybernská, entitled "Hate/Love". The work is her personal statement, in which she copes with the feeling of hatred. In his video, she maps this extreme feeling. But hate cannot exist without love, these two emotions dually stand side by side.

Performer Kateryna Mamchur and multimedia artist Yulya Kisil dealt with topics such as feminism, urban space, and social and social issues in their pre-war work. In her pre-war work, Svitlana Reinish connected classical art with the help of programming and video mapping, her work to date can be called apolitical. Antik Danov is a street art artist who points out urban shortcomings. His interventions in the city aroused social discourse many times, and several times led to direct changes. Antik Danov was the only artist involved in artistic activism even before the start of the war. Paradoxically, compared to his female colleagues, his work remains unchanged or unaffected by the current situation. In his work "Appearance of Security and Protection" he comments on the stability of security by means of architecture and its so-called security patches only for the eye. Danov is originally from Crimea, and in March 2022, the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea will enter its ninth year of annexation by Russia following an illegal, illegitimate referendum. His work has remained unchanged perhaps precisely because he comes from Crimea. Compared to Antik Danov, the works of his three colleagues from the residence are a personal reflection of the war. The daily fear for loved ones, or sadness for those they have lost, or may still lose, is indescribable and, I'm afraid, not transferable even through works of art.

Born in 1992 in Ukraine, Danov received his education in the field of Design and Architecture. As part of his own artistic practice, he focuses primarily on the motifs and processes of modernity, he is a street art artist who points out urban shortcomings. His interventions in the city aroused social discourse many times, and several times led to direct changes. Between 2014 and 2019, he operated under the pseudonym tet9l (aunt). Since then, he performs under the name Antik Danov.

Kateryna Mamchur was born in 1990 in the Ukrainian city of Melitopol. She received her university degree at the Oles Hončar Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology, Fine Arts and Design of the Dnipro National University. For a while she also studied Illustration at the Projector School of Applied Arts in Kyiv. She currently focuses on performance and illustration. She has been studying performing arts since 2017.

As part of her own work, she experiments with transparency and invisibility. Mamchur uses materials such as water and polyethylene, deals with coexistence in urban space and investigates the effects of cities or places in general on performative activity. She deals with the concept of the body as material in art, feminism, the art of walking, urban planning and related topics. She also invites other performers to participate in group performances.

She studied at the School of Contemporary Art in Kyiv, Ukraine. Yulya Kisil is a multimedia artist who deals with social issues, in her works she points out those that society has long forgotten. In the "Homeless Spirit" project of 2018, she elevated to the rank of deity the most vulnerable people with a lack of destiny, such as orphans, disabled people, alcoholics, drug addicts, etc...

Svitlana Reinish is a graduate of the Kyiv Academy of Arts, (2009) she is a digital artist who focuses on the relationship between technology and aesthetics in visual arts. The Academy provided her with the basics of classical art, which she applies in her work through programming and video mapping. Reinish participates in light and music festivals around the world and cooperates with large-format theaters.
